Robert Otto Risk, 87, a former advertising salesman for the Guadalajara Reporter, died in Guadalajara January 3 after a long illness.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Risk signed up for the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific theater.

After the war, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in California and enjoyed a lengthy and fruitful career.

Risk retired to Guadalajara in 1986 and joined the sales team at the Guadalajara Reporter.  He married his second wife, Lourdes Garcia, in 1991.

Risk was an avid (and talented) ping pong player and a keen believer in a healthy lifestyle. Even in his early 80s, Otto could impress his colleagues at the newspaper by doing multiple sit-ups that youngsters would have been proud of.

Always upbeat and optimistic, Risk was a fine work companion and friend, never without a smile on his face.

Otto is survived by his wife; five children from his first marriage: Barbara, Linda, Mark, Terry and Bernard; and six step-children from his second marriage.
