Janet Esther Hamilton died December 30 at her home in Ajijic, following hip replacement surgery at the age of 73.
Born July 4, 1936 in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, Hamilton attended Bellevue High School and graduated from Indiana University in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She made many dear friends there and was “Swingout Queen” in her senior year. She worked as a school teacher and co-pastor of Victory Community Church in Downer’s Grove, Illinois. She and her husband, James Hamilton, moved to Ajijic in 1995, where she continued to do missionary work until the time of her death.
The joys of her life were her relationship with Jesus Christ, her grandchildren and cooking.
Her daughter Nancy Jean preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 48 years; daughter Beth Matson of Geneva, Illinois; son Robert Hamilton of Beloit, Wisconsin; and four granddaughters, Morgan and Meredith Matson and Finley and Isobel Hamilton.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 8, at the Little Chapel by the Lake on the Chapala-Jocotepec Carretera just east of the Chula Vista Golf Course at 3:30 p.m.
A second memorial service will be held in the Chicago area, the date and location to be announced.
