In a Mexican TV advert, Landon Donovan, the United States’ most famous soccer player, tries to sneak across the border into Mexico in search of winning this country’s soccer lottery.
Dressed as a campesino with a huge sombrero and fake, stick-on mustache, Donavan inadvertently grabs the attention of the sleepy Mexican guard on duty. “Soy mexicano,” says Donovan in heavily accented Spanish. “Of course you’re not,” answers the guard. “You’re Landon Donovan.” Donovan then explains that it’s easier to win the soccer lottery in Mexico than in the United States.
