LOCAL DONATION OPTIONS
Although money may be the best and quickest way of getting aid to the people of Haiti, Mexicans traditionally give food and clothes in these kinds of disaster situations. The following organizations have set up donation centers:
DIF Jalisco Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Receive: Canned food, cleaning products, bottled water (preferably one liter), soap, sanitary products, diapers, and toilet paper. Location: Alcalde 1220, next to Glorieta La Normal in Guadalajara. DIF Chapala will also accept donations, this newspaper has been told.
Haitian Consulate in Guadalajara Open everyday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Receive: Same as the DIF but also: rice, beans, powdered milk, instant soups, medicine. Please bring products in sealed boxes labeled clearly with the word “Haiti.” Location: Avenida Federalismo Norte 3750, half a block from the Periferico. Tel: 3819-3502
Red Cross Guadalajara (and all other Red Cross centers in Mexico) Open everyday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Receive: Everything mentioned above and torches (with batteries), facemasks, throwaway gloves, antiseptic solutions. Location: San Felipe 7, in front of Parque Morelos, one block Calz. Independencia.
