Sixteen collaborative agreements covering education, science and health have been signed in the intervening years.
The main success story, however, has been in forest fire training. Alberta has provided high-quality training to 131 Jalisco firefighters. Canadian firefighters also helped plan and construct a new training center in the Primavera Forest.
According to Alvaro Garcia Chavez, the state’s secretary for Rural Development, the time it now takes to put out fires in the Primavera has been vastly reduced.
Ten math and English professors from Jalisco have also benefitted from the partnership.
