Metro-area bus fares increased from five to six pesos on Friday, January 8.
State authorities approved a 20-percent hike in December, although bus owners pushed the government for an increase of seven pesos per ride. Fares of local buses in other Jalisco municipalities go up to 5.50 pesos, except for Puerto Vallarta, where a ride will cost 6.50 pesos. One of the conditions for the increase is that bus concessionaires and owners equip their buses to allow a pre-paid card fare system to be implemented in the coming year.
