Is bracelet the answer to dengue?

Share

A debate is raging as to the effectiveness of anti-dengue bracelets that are being sold at stands around the city.

“It’s taken us ten years of investigation to develop these repellent bracelets,” Sergio Mejia Lopez, director of sales for Super Band told a Spanish-language daily newspaper.

According to Mejia, body heat causes the bracelet to release oil particles like citronela, geranium and lemon, which repel mosquitoes.

“We shouldn’t trust our health in these types of bracelets,” said the director of Sanitary Regulation for the Jalisco Health Department, who previously said they are not effective. “It’s not something we can recommend as a security blanket (against dengue).”
