Cat & dog adoptions

altThe first winter season cat and dog adoption tent was set up at the Mega Supermarket in Bucerias last week.

The program to find good homes for stray or unwanted cats and dogs is sponsored by PEACE Mexico, which also provides free, low-cost spay/neuter clinics in the region.

The only animal available for adoption this day was a young cat with beautiful copper eyes. It was adopted for a private school in Bucerias by one of its teachers.

Several other cats and dogs looking for new homes had not yet been taken to the veterinarian to be spayed/neutered, so they were not ready to be adopted out.

The tent will be outside Mega’s front entrance from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Jalisco time) on the second Saturday of every month.

There are some rules to observe in order to participate in the adoption program: Animals must be spayed or neutered and in good health (if there are vaccination records, please bring them); cats must be in carriers and dogs must be in crates or on a leash.

In addition, the person who brings an animal must stay at the tent until their cat or dog is adopted and will be required to take it home with them if it is not adopted.

The pet adoptions are free, but donations are welcomed to cover the cost of spay/neuter treatments.

Contact Sue Fornoff if you would like to volunteer at the adoption tent, if you are looking for a specific breed of pet to adopt or if you have a cat or dog that needs a home.

My Mexican Kitchen

Travis Dietz and Edgar Cordova, the owners/chefs of My Mexican Kitchen, say they are ready to treat Bucerias to a traditional taste of Mexico. Both have been in Puebla studying and have new recipes to go along with their new website (www.mymexicankitchen.com).

Visit them on the web or at one of the many Thursday night functions at the Bucerias Art Walk Plaza.

“Cozy, delicious catered dinners in your house; small group, hands-on cooking classes in our kitchen; or catered fiestas, wherever you want them to be,” their publicity boasts.

Call Travis at 322-116-4493 or Edgar at 322-121-8765 for more information.

BBCC Open House

The Bucerias Bilingual Community Center (BBCC) started its high season activities with an open house, at which BBCC founder Judi Conrad introduced staff, teachers, supporters and board members. Many exciting classes and activities are planned for the season. One new activity is the Conversation Café on Saturday mornings from 9-11 a.m. Come and sit on the patio and enjoy conversation with others in your “non-native” tongue. Cost is a recommended 50-peso donation. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Other new classes include a cooking series, yoga on the beach and a nature class. Returning favorites are classes in English and Spanish, computers and meditation.

The BBCC is located at Calle 16 de septiembre 48, and Mago or Denise can answer any questions at 298-3527.

Festival del Sabor

The first Festival del Sabor on November 21 and 22 sees chef Seth Cloutman guest cook for two nights at Mark’s Bar and Grill in Bucerias.  The patio will be reserved for this event so the seating is limited.  A communal table is also available so that singles and foodies can converse about cuisine, the news or just get to know each other.

In addition to asparagus, gnocci, foie gras and figs, the main course choices will be roulades.  The first is Rolled New Zealand Veal stuffed with a Porcini Mushroom Duxelle, Goat Cheese and Swiss Chard and the second, Rolled Rabalo (bass) stuffed with lobster and avocado and wrapped in Serrano Ham.  Dessert will be poached pear, rich custard and filo.  A sommelier will be pairing wines for each course.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling Mark’s at Lazaro Cardenas 56, Bucerias at 01-329-298-0303.

Bucerias Art Walks

The next Art Walks are scheduled December 3, 17, 24 & 29. On Christmas Eve, there’s a traditional Bucerias Posada at The Bucerias Art Walk Plaza, at Lazaro Cardenas 62, and on December 29, a champagne reception.

A Cake Walk

Banderas Bay’s favorite bakery, Pie in the Sky  has entered the Bucerias Art Walk scene  with their line of “Boutique” Art Cakes.  Each cake is as unique as a work of art.  The art Cakes were inspired by the Banderas Bays’ popular Bucerias Art Walk.  Cake Artist Zulem Angel Mendoza will create an individually designed intricate cake that makes for a truly unforgettable gift.

This mini cake is about 5” wide by 3 1/2” tall. You can choose from a variety of previous designs , or you can personalize your own creation. During the Bucerias Art Walk, Pie In The Sky(will be located in the front part of the Bucerias Art Walk Plaza.  These miniature edible pieces of art are available for 195 pesos per cake and are available at the Art Walk or at either the Bucerias or Puerto Vallarta location of Pie In The Sky.
