The Lake Chapala Green Group will showcase speakers from Green Transitions in Action at their next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, 3 p.m. on the back patio of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).
The Green Transitions speakers will present information on Transition Towns, a movement begun by Rob Hopkins of Transition Town Totnes in England that is sweeping the world one village at a time. The emphasis is on working together, creating community resiliency and teaching people practical skills for sustainability in the face of the transition to a world without cheap oil.
The speakers will focus on “The Great Re-Skilling,” to relearn some of the skills our grandparents took for granted. There will be a demonstration of some simple home-made ways to return to self sufficiency, including a vertical patio garden, a solar cooker and a composter.
The Green Group hopes to generate a group of creative and imaginative volunteers to do outreach, help present workshops, do a film series and to have fun raising resilience in both the foreign and the Mexican communities.
The meeting is open to all interested parties.
