Shorts, T-shirts, sunglasses, cold Coronas and carne asada were the order of the day for Guadalajara expats at the Mexpat Christmas posada on a blazing Sunday afternoon in December.
Eighty adults, 50 children and three piñatas turned up to Andy Kieffer’s spacious house in Colonia Americana. Thankfully, only the piñatas were damaged, although there were probably some sore heads the morning after.
The success of the event highlighted the continued importance of Mexpat as a cultural support group and networking base for foreigners living in Guadalajara.

My friend and I are thinking seriously about Guadalajara as a new home town. We have been there, but only had time to see some of the historic district. Mexpat sounds wonderful. We need friends and lots of advice. For instance, can you give us some idea of a nice, safe neighborhood. Not spiffy and certainly not expensive. My friend is an artist, and he wants a lot of space and light. I'm not that particular, because I write, which can be done anywhere. Will you make a suggestion, por favor? Thanks, Millie
