Xmas shopping
Twenty-five accomplished local artisans and seven painters will offer their creations for sale in the plaza facing the grand Templo Expiatorio, on Enrique Diaz de Leon, near the Lopez Cotilla intersection, a cross from the Instituto Cultural Mexicano Norte Americano from Friday, December 18 through Sunday, December 20. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (extended to 10 p.m. on Sunday).
Church services
St. Mark’s Episcopal (Anglican) Parish, Chichimecas 836, Col. Terrazas Monraz, will hold its Christmas service on Thursday, December 25, 6 p.m. There will be ponche and buñuelos after the service. During the service the choir and congregation will sing many favorite Christmas carols.
All Saints Lutheran Church holds its posada on Saturday, December 19, 7 p.m. and Christmas Eve mass on Thursday, December 24, 6 p.m.
Live from The Met
Opera lovers shouldn’t forget the high-definition, live transmission of the New York Met’s performance of Jacques Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” at the Teatro Diana, Saturday, December 19, noon. Tickets cost 80-250 pesos.
More movie theaters
Cinepolis has opened a 14-theater multiplex in La Ciudadela Lifestyle Center at Moctezuma and Patria. The new mall, which is anchored by a Walmart store, is rapidly on its way to completion. Look out for the second biggest Best Buy store in the continent, opening there soon.
Rainy days of December
It doesn’t often rain in December, but Guadalajara’s top weather man Angel Muelenert says we should expect precipitation throughout the winter season.
“It has been raining as a result of the humidity entering the Pacific and the atmospheric change brought on by El Niño,” he says.
Muelenert added that temperature may drop further toward the end of December.
