Dear Sir,

I read with interest the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) announcement that the paid positions of treasurer, librarian and business manager were being cut or changed, especially since I never knew that the treasurer and the librarian were being paid.

However, nowhere either in the LCS announcement or in the news article did it say what other paid positions were not being cut. President? Vice President? Secretary? Senior directors? Others besides gardeners? If paid, how much do they make?

The LCS directory says that the society has “more than” 3,700 members. Say three quarters of them, 2,775, are married and have paid as couples. That is 1,385 couples times 600 (membership cost in pesos), making 832,500. The other quarter, 925 singles, times 450 makes 416,250.

That makes a very approximate budget of 1,248,750. Need I point out that it is grandiose construction projects, not simple repairs and purchase of books and DVD’s, plus surprising salaries, that have apparently eaten up the funds and left it to the rest of us to make up the difference.
