The Second International Festival of Mexican Viceregal Music is a chance to hear the encounter between the sacred music of Spanish conquistadors and festive, traditional indigenous rhythms. From Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 10, six groups specializing in Mexico’s old music will bring their traditional sound to Guadalajara and Tlajomulco churches. Here are a few of the concerts (all are free and open to the public): Capella Antiqua (from Guadalajara) plays Saturday, August 2, 8:30 p.m., at the Capilla Tolsa Cabañas (downtown in the Instituto Cultural Cabañas) Frailicum (from the Netherlands) plays Sunday, August 3, 6 p.m., at the Museo de la Ciudad (Independencia 684 at M. Barcena in the city center) Los Tonos Humanos (from Puebla) play Monday, August 4, 8:30 p.m., at the Templo de Aranzazu (16 de septiembre 295) Ars Antiqua (from Guadalajara), plays on Friday, August 8, 8:30 p.m. at the Capilla Tolsa Cabañas La Camerata de la Nueva España (from Guanajuato) plays on Sunday, August 10, 6 p.m., at the Capilla Tolsa Cabañas |
