I really take exception to the article “other myths and legends” in its discussion of the previous possible anthrax problem.

This was neither a myth nor a legend, but an actual problem that was taken quite seriously by the municipality of Chapala.  Several cows were dying in the area around Riberas and San Antonio with carbuncle like sores on their skins. The municipality took the precaution of burying one cow three meters deep into the ground (I watched them do that).  The municipality themselves (the Department of Ecology) were themselves very worried that it might be anthrax (and mentioned that word) and called in anthrax specialists to do testing. This was more than a rumor and, in fact, those of us who live in the area spoke with the government officials many times.

By the way, after all was said and done, we were never told what this “less ominous disease” was.
