After 15 years tied to Guadalajara, the International Mariachi Festival is on the move.
The city will still host the annual fall extravaganza – this year’s
dates are August 28 to September 7 – but ![]() Trumpets herald the 15th International Mariachi Festival this week. This year’s festival will feature the usual ingredients: nightly galas at the Degollado Theater; free concerts in public plazas, shopping malls and restaurants, as well as many other mariachi related events. A big draw is bound to be the concert at the Auditorio Telmex on September 5 given by Juan Gabriel, one of Mexico’s most famous ranchero singers. The festival parade in downtown Guadalajara (Saturday, August 30, 4 p.m.) will feature 16 floats and hundreds of musicians, dancers and charros (Mexican horsemen and women). |
