Loyal and well-heeled expatriate Democrats will gather July 22 at a private home in Mexico City to meet the younger half-sister of presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Two Obama fundraising receptions are planned: a 250-dollar per person lunch and a 1,000-dollar dinner.

Maya
Schoolteacher Maya Seotoro, the half-brother of Barak Obama, will visit Mexico later this month for two fundraisers in the capital.
Maya Seotoro-Ng, a school teacher and college instructor in Hawaii, joined the Obama campaign in its primary stages about a year ago and has been stumping around Asia and the Pacific Rim off and on since then. Nine years younger than Obama, she was born in Indonesia to Ann Dunham, Obama’s mother, after her second marriage to Indonesian businessman Lolo Soetoro. She attended the Punahou School in Hawaii like her big brother and received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2006.

She is married to Konrad Ng, a Chinese-Canadian assistant professor at the University of Hawaii’s Academy of Creative Media and is a Buddhist. The couple has one daughter.

Democrats Abroad Mexico Chairperson Howard Feldstein and local Democratic activist Sandra Loridans, both from the Lakeside area, will be attending the events as invited guests. Both are elected delegates to the National Democratic Convention scheduled August 25-28 in Denver, Colorado. They will represent Democrats Abroad, along with 20 other delegates from around the world, who were elected in March at the Democrats Abroad Americas meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Only U.S. citizens can contribute to the fundraising events. Contributions and gifts to the Obama Victory Fund are not deductible for federal income tax purposes.
