ASA

The Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) will meet Monday, July 7, 10 a.m. at Hotel La Nueva Posada, Donato Guerra 8 in Ajijic.

Besides the installation of new officers (President Deena Hafker, Vice President Lori Truly, 2nd Vice President Lauri Jensen, Secretary Candace Spence and Treasurer Jeanne Greene), popular prominent Lakeside painter Ken Gosh will give a demonstration of his technique for the development of a painting. All are welcome.

Another pretty face

Rock band Psychostasia is looking for a young, attractive actress to be in a professionally produced music video. The video has an emotional PG-rated story line and will be directed by a prominent U.S. producer/director and filmed here in Mexico over a two-to-three-day period toward the end of July. The young lady can be of any nationality; but needs a vulnerable, gentle style.

There is also a very small part for a young man.

Interested parties can call 762-0403 to arrange an audition.

Writers

The Lakeside Writers Conference will hold its Ninth Annual Meeting Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6 at the Gonzalez Gallo Cultural Center (old train station) in Chapala. The theme for the conference this year is “Chapala-Pure Stories.”

The event is designed to give writers the opportunity to share their ideas about a specific theme by means of a short story written in Spanish. Special recognition will be given to the top three stories as selected by the participants. Among those scheduled to attend the Conference is Eugenio Aguirre, a contemporary writer from Mexico City.

Organizers of the event are the Colectiva el Quijote of Chapala, the Ayuntamiento of Chapala and the Secretary of Culture of the State of Jalisco.

Anyone with an interest in literature is welcome to attend. Being able to communicate in Spanish to some degree might be a help, as well.

For hours and costs contact Maria Elena Ramirez at the cultural center at 765-7424.

Library special

July 2, the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) video library instituted a “Summer Special” during which all standard video rentals are reduced to ten pesos. LCS members can take advantage of the offer on Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Joco art showing

The Casa de Cultura de Jocotepec will open an exhibition, “Concretus,” of painting, sculpture, photography and engraving Saturday, July 5, at 5 p.m.

Painters are Abel Martinez C., Abraham M. Guerrero, Alisa Quezada, Angelica Garcia Urena, Blanca E. Lopez, Carment Murillo, Sandra Diaz de la Serna, Sergio Arturo Unzueta and Veronica Rodrigues.

The sculpture is by Monica Magaly Martin Hernandez and the photography by Adela Elvira Perez and Tanya Rosales Ramirez.

Jocotepec’s Casa de Cultura is located near the principal plaza there.
