Lakeside festival fills local plazas Print E-mail

The Chapala Vivo festival, from Friday, May 30 through Saturday June 7, is set to explode into Lakeside villages with dance, concerts, theater, exhibits, and workshops meant to rehabilitate cultural spaces, natural areas and tourism in the area.

Communities around Lake Chapala will host activities in theor public plazas, with all events, unless otherwise indicated, free of charge. Here are some Ajijic and Chapala highlights:


Friday, May 30
7:30 p.m. – Inaugural parade, Avenida Madero, Chapala
9:00 p.m. – Modern dance “Machis, Mujer Laguna” by Gabriela Cuevas, floating scenery, Chapala waterfront.

Saturday, May 31
10:00 a.m. – Elaboration of group mural, Paseo del Arte, east entrance to Ajijic Plaza.
4:00 p.m. – Rock, reggae and ska festival, art show and street puppet theater, Ajijic Plaza.
8:00 p.m. – “Algo Raro” fashion show of outfits made recycled materials, Chapala Malecon.

Sunday, June 1
4:00 p.m. – Music Festival (rock, reggae, ska) and street theater, Chapala Malecon.
7:00 p.m. – Jaramar, alternative music concer, Auditorio de la Ribera, Ajijic, 150 pesos.

Monday, June 2
8:00 p.m. – Zapotlan del Rey Polinesian dance troupe, Chapala Malecon.
9:00 p.m. – “Son de Colores” Latin American music, San Antonio Tlayacapan Plaza.

Tuesday, June 3
8 p.m. – Beto Rivera’s Jazz Group, Chapala Malecon.
8 p.m. – “Bossa Brazil” play batukada and bossa nova, San Antonio Tlayacapan Plaza.
Wednesday, June 4
8:00 p.m. – Molokai Polynesian dance troupe, Chapala Malecon.

Thursday, June 5
9:30 p.m. – Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos ballet folclorico.
