Dear Sir, The answer is yes to your question whether you can get an electronic IMSS ID card (GR May 3-9).My husband, a Mexican citizen, and I, a naturalized Mexican, both have our new cards. We went to Guadalajara’s Clinic 39 (at the Glorieta del Alamo, where Av. Lazaro Cardenas meets the Chapala highway) on the bus from Chapala. We arrived at about 10 a.m. and got our ficha. We were number 50 and realized it would be a long wait as they were attending number 20. We went into downtown Guadalajara and returned about noon. There were still five folks ahead of us. The process didn’t take long, although the list of documents a Mexican citizen needs is a long one. If you are Mexican or naturalized, you will need to take originals of your birth certificate, CURP, proof of residence, voter registration card and your IMSS book. The list appears to be shorter for holders of FMs: FM2 or FM3 original, proof of residence and your IMSS book. If you are a foreigner and have the documents a Mexican needs, it won’t hurt to take them. Nanette de Enciso |
