Dear Sir,

Your article on the death penalty in the May 3-9 issue says, “Despite the execution moratorium, the United States carried out 42 prisoner executions last year ...” but the moratorium was not in effect last year. The Supreme Court decreed it this year while it was considering whether execution by lethal injection was constitutional.
