Fresh from a special month-long photography course teaching them the particulars of documenting fish and fishermen around Lake Chapala, students of Xill Fessenden are preparing an exhibition of their work to coincide with the Chapala Vivo art festival.
Photography course
This photo immortalizing the reappearance of a crab species on Scorpion Island was taken during a photographic workshop led by Xill Fessenden. “Rebecca and the Crab.”
The photos, which reflect many aspects of the environment around the lake, will be set up on the Chapala pier from May 30 to June 5.

The students (Arturo Garcia, Lynn Caldwell, Janie Lankford, Rebecca Ford, Gloria Palazzo and Paul Hart) were able to extensively cover the activities of fishing life at Petatan, Michoacan, with visits to the hatcheries of the endemic Charal on Scorpion Island. They also documented life on the ranch of Aguacaliente just south of Itzclan.

The group is looking for more participants to learn technical skills,  seek out and document beautiful creatures in other nearby ecosystems, observe and record the richness of the cultural traditions of people living around Lake Chapala and create a vision of this unique environment that includes all life, even ourselves.

Those interested in this special workshop should contact Fessenden at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
