Lakeside resident Bonnie Laverne Sasvari died in her sleep April 14 at the Centro Medico in Guadalajara after battling cancer for nearly two years. She was 64. Sasvari was born January 11, 1944 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. After finishing high school in Coaldale, Alberta, she graduated from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing.
After taking further university courses, Sasvari worked for an architectural firm and a coal mining company. At one point she ran her own construction company before retiring in 2003. Sasvari and her husband Les came to Lakeside in September 2003. Since 2004, they resided at Vista del Lago. Sasvari was very involved with the community, chairing the architectural committee of Vista del Lago and teaching elementary English as a Second Language to store clerks, gardeners and maids in Chapala. For seven years, Sasvari was a loving wife to her husband, who survives her. She is survived by her mother, Mildred Oliver; her brother Wayne Oliver and her sons Mark and Bruce. Sasvari’s family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the IMSS Centro Medico who did everything possible to care for her. They did it with expertise, gentleness and great compassion. The family also wants to thank Sasvari’s friends for their help, genuine concern, praying and caring. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 11 a.m. at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar. |
