The Christmas season in Mexico comes to a close Saturday, February 2 as families and friends gather for tamale feasts and other traditional activities connected with the observance of La Candelaria (Candlemas). Millions of Mexican people mark the occasion with tamale dinners, referred to as tamalizas, hosted by individuals who have been designated as godparents of the Christ Child by finding a tiny doll in a slice of Rosca de Reyes, the traditional sweetened bread eaten at January 6 Epiphany gatherings.
