Guadalajara, Jal. Longing for a taste of home -- or at least the beer they drink there? Guadalajara-area residents now have at least two options for imbibing international beer: Mondo Bier, across from Plaza Patria on Avila Camacho, and Red Pub, in the Zona Rosa just off Avenida Mexico on Bernardo de Balbuena. Both boast more than 70 brands of beer from around the world but serious beerhounds will be left with a tear in their brew if they are looking for something truly unique to Guadalajara. Most of the beer these two pubs carry is already available at specialty liquor stores or supermarkets; the lone Canadian beer available at Mondo Bier is Moosehead, which is carried by Soriana. Highlights of a recent visit to Mondo Bier included GermanyÕs Krombacher pilsner on tap, DenmarkÕs Carlsberg (in a can) and bottled Belgian dark ale Carolus, but a number of advertised brands, including EnglandÕs Newcastle, were temporarily out of stock. |
