Mexican vintages held their own at the prestigious 2007 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles wine and spirit awards, bringing home seven medals for wines and five for tequilas. Organized since 1994, this year's Concours Mondial was held in Maastricht, Netherlands, from April 29 to May 1. The competition brought together 5,735 wines and spirits from 47 countries. Mexico participated with samples of 39 wines and 13 spirits.
Vintages at the competition were blind-tasted and assessed by a panel of 220 renowned oenologists, sommeliers and journalists, then awarded medals based on their point averages.
Concours Mondial medals are invaluable quality control marks and can help guide relative newcomers to the world of Mexican wines. This year's award-winning Mexican wines and their makers were:

Gold medals:
Reserva Magna 2003, Casa Domecq
Casa Grande Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Casa Madero
Gran Ricardo 2002, Monte Xanic

Silver medals:
Casa Grande Chardonnay 2006, Casa Madero
Casa Madero Chardonnay 2006, Casa Madero
Monte Xanic Malbec 2004, Monte Xanic
XA Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, Casa Domecq
