Dear Sir,
I would like to comment on Jeanne Chaussee's article on Legion Post Seven. My wife and I have been auxiliary members of Post Seven for the past three years. During that time, and for many years prior, Leon Gould dedicated himself to the Legion. He was always there, even on his days off. Leon was always doing something whether it was going to the bank, going to the store for supplies or food, painting the walls, or whatever else needed to be done. And there was always a lot that needed to be done. He inherited a bad situation after the previous Commander stole the Post's funds. Leon was between a rock and a hard place and, as new Commander, had to make some difficult decisions. Yes, he could have sent in dues, but he paid bills instead. What good would it do anyone to have their dues paid but have no Legion because the rent, utilities and staff were not paid? My wife and I are sure that he planned on sending in dues as soon as possible but had inherited major problems that needed immediate attention. In our opinion, Leon Gould should be lauded for his dedication to the Legion over the many years and for trying his best to keep Post 7 alive. Those that have forgotten about all his hard work, with no remuneration, and now want to chastise and punish him for doing what he thought best to keep the doors open should be ashamed of themselves.
