Dear Sir, In your January 5-11 issue on page 3 you printed an article with the headline, "Immigration offers fast-track, low-cost route to legality." It spoke of an amnesty program for foreigners who entered the country prior to January 1, 2005 and currently are living here illegally.
According to immigration in Guadalajara, there is no such program at this time. On Friday, February 15, I spoke to a Migracion official who stated the article is incorrect. Can you tell me where you got your information from?
Marina Calderon

EDITOR'S RESPONSE:
The information we received back in January came from Mexico City. We understand it was the intention of the National Migration Institute (INM) to start the program in January but it was delayed for reasons we are not clear about. Our understanding is that the program will now begin around March 1. We suggest you check with the local INM office at this time. If we receive confirmation of the program, we will publish the information immediately.
