The Chili Cookoff will be officially opened by Chapala Mayor (Presidente Municipal) Alejandro Aguirre Friday, February 9, 1 p.m. Following the ceremony, there will be a performance by one of three folkloric ballet troupes appearing at the Cookoff, says Veronica Gonzalez, in charge of entertainment this year. Saturday's entertainment includes two line-dancing shows, children's and adult ballet folkloric dancing, the Transito motorcycle stuntmen (see right) and a musical trio. The Transito team, line dancers and folkloric dancers return on Sunday, when they will be joined by a full mariachi band, which will perform on stage as well as serenade visitors and cooks between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Children will be well looked after this year. A special area called Chicolandia will provide inflatables, a puppet show and other attractions for the little ones.
