Mathematically speaking, "The Score" should top all tables. It effectively tells the story of a high-tech heist with only one muffled explosion and minimal gunplay and boasts a "blue moon" cast. In fact, it shows every sign of having been put together by adults for adults. The reality, however, is that mathematics has yet to produce a top-notch film.

I think we'd all agreed that 2001 has been short on laughs. Just ask Tom Green or David Spade. And though its generally considered poor form to be jovial during times of crises, I believe the time is now for the Return of the Funny. A safety valve, a deflationary tool, call it what you will, but without a sense of humor there is no true sense of gravity. Which is precisely why "Zoolander" is just so darn timely.

In 1998, Darren Aronofsky set the industry ablaze when his virtuosic 8mm debut "Pi" swiped the director's award at the Sundance Film Festival Art buffs primed themselves for the sophomore slump of an inchoate talent given too much Hollywood time and money. They should have known better.
