In many parts of the world, foreign residents are allowed the opportunity to vote in local elections. This enfranchisement does not represent a threat to the sovereignty of a nation – the foreigners mostly pay taxes and have a stake in their communities. Many have lived there for decades. In some countries, France to name one, foreigners who are not naturalized citizens may even stand for local offices. |
