Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, gave a speech on the Mormon faith, religion and politics recently, declaring, "Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom." Sunday, on the NBC television news commentary program "Meet the Press" he attempted to clarify those remarks that had left some voters puzzled, disconcerted or disbelieving. Host Tim Russert asked, "Can you have freedom without organized religion?"

Even With US Aid, Calderon Can't Win The Drug War

Gerardo Garcia, a 24-year-old reporter from La Opinion newspaper in President Felipe Calderon's home state of Michoacan, was chased down and murdered Monday. Trumpet player Jose Luis Aquino, 33, a member of the popular Los Conde group, was found murdered Sunday in Oaxaca.

Mexico Confident On Riding Out Gradual US Economic Slowdown

Citigroup, the United States' largest bank, bailed itself out of short-term trouble Tuesday by selling a whopping 7.5 billion dollar stake to Abu Dhabi. This cheered markets worldwide. The New York Stock Exchange showed the Dow rising more than 200 points. Monday, the Dow had plunged 240 points, dragging down other stocks, including those in Mexico and other countries. Wednesday, the Dow was up even more, 322 points, on hopes the Federal Reserve will adjust interest rates. But a Fed official warned of hard times ahead.
