It’s quite another to sit face to face with a native speaker and chat back and forth – and that’s what Hablando Live, an online Spanish school started about a year ago, seeks to offer.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, April 6 at 2 a.m. Clocks must be turned ahead one hour. Mexico adopted the measure 12 years ago — despite considerable opposition — conforming with countries around the world in an effort to cut down on energy use and pollution.

This week during an English class I helped a student of mine, employed in the safety and health department of a large manufacturing company out of El Salto, translate an accident report from Spanish to English. A lab worker suffered a minor laceration to her palm caused by a broken flask.

An Italian priest schooled in many languages has emerged out of the high sierra village of Acoyotla bearing the fruit of many years labor – a translation of the Catholic Bible into Nahuatl, the ancient language of the Aztecs and Toltecs, which is still spoken in many scattered parts of Mexico.
