Jalisco’s relations with India took a massive upswing this week when the president of the dynamic Asian nation flew into Guadalajara for a one-day visit.

 
Brenda Martin sentenced to 5 years

A Guadalajara judge has sentenced Canadian Brenda Martin to five years in prison and fined her 35,850 pesos for her role in a investment scam operated out of Puerto Vallarta.

Rebecca Roth, a US citizen also charged in connection with the case, was also found guilty and sentenced to nine years.

Judge Jose Luis Nuñez Sandoval found Martin guilty of knowingly taking part in money laundering.  She has five days to appeal her sentence.

A few thousand protestors, mostly residents of the Jalisco towns of El Salto and Juanacatlan, crowded the streets of downtown Guadalajara Monday afternoon, outraged that the state government has failed to address the contamination of the Santiago River.
