The level of Lake Chapala jumped 10 centimeters from June 10 to 18, auguring a promising rainy season that authorities predict will pump the lake up to 75 percent of its natural holding capacity by next fall.
 
Rains roll in ahead of saints

The Virgin of Zapopan’s annual visit to Chapala, along with local festivities honoring Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint John the Baptist, normally herald the coming of summer rains. This year the first storms rolled in ahead of the religious celebrations, giving Lake Chapala an early boost.
