Yes. A lot of foreigners irritate me. Those who scream that they “own” Mexico or who lack respect for Mexican nationals and their customs, or who insist on running around with expressions on their faces looking like they smell something bad and refuse to answer a simple ‘good morning’ really put me off ... and I have often used this space to tell them so.
But recently, sitting at a benefit event and looking around at the folks who had shown up with donations, best wishes and deep pockets made me realize that, basically, we’re not really bad sorts at all. Foreign folks residing or even just visiting here consistently step up and support all manner of charities, schools, music students, old folks’ homes, needy children, animal shelters, children’s shelters, and mostly, each in his or her own way, the community.
Keep it up, Lakeside. Sometimes you really make me proud.
