A prisoner’s incredible reign over the city outside his cell is interrupted by an assistant district attorney.Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is a brilliant planner and inventor. One night two robbers invade his Philadelphia home and brutally kill his wife and daughter, and almost kill him. The killers are caught, and Assistant DA Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) is assigned the case. Nick is ordered by the DA to make a deal with one of the killers to testify against his partner for a 10 year plea bargain prison sentence. Clyde doesn’t want Nick to make the deal, but Nick says it was too late and the deal is done. The other killer got the death penalty.

Robert De Niro leads a stellar cast in this insightful dramedy starring Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, and Sam Rockwell. A remake of the Italian film Stanno Tutti Bene, Everybody’s Fine features De Niro playing a widower realizing that his only connection to his family was through his wife. Thus he sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children. Director: Kirk Jones. Cast: Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell. Time: 99 minutes. Rating: PG-13.

Disaster movies have been popular since cinema began, but there’s never been a disaster movie like 2012. It’s easy to scoff at the over-reliance of CGI in contemporary cinema but for a film like this it’s part and parcel of the whole, and computer generated effects have never before been used as spectacularly. |
