Star sopranos to provide a sparkling night of music

Share

Still catching their breaths from the success of their sold-out January 17 concert given by the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), the movers and shakers of the Music Appreciation Society are already preparing another musical feast that is sure to please. Three gorgeous and sublime operatic sopranos will grace the stage of Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago on Tuesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. The threesome are Liliana del Conde, Mariana del Rocio Corona and Zaira Soria. These Mexican stars have been making sparkling names for themselves in places like San Miguel de Allende, where the audience gave them standing ovations last year. They also perform regularly in opera productions and recitals around Mexico and internationally.

The February 9 program includes songs from “My Fair Lady,” “Cats,” “Porgy and Bess,” and opera arias from “Madame Butterfly,” “ La Boheme,” “Turandot,” “La Traviata,” “Tosca,” “La Rodine,” and more.

Liliana del Conde is a member of the vocal quintet “Schola Piccola,” under the direction of Thomas Koerner. She has performed on radio and television and has given recitals in France, Germany, Portugal and Mexico . Her roles include “Violetta” in “La Traviata,” “Bertha” in “Barber of Seville,” “Adina” in “Elixir of Love” and “Margarita” in “Gounod.”

Zaira Soria has won first and second places in numerous competitions and in 2006 received an award for the best interpretation of Mozart. Her roles include “Mimi” in “La Boheme” and “Slisa” in “Lucia di Lammermoor.”

Mariana del Rocio is from Guadalajara and is a member of “Ensemble Cantante.” She has studied under famed Mexican tenor Flavio Becerra, with whom she has sung Baroque music.

Tickets are 250 pesos and go on sale Monday, January 25 at the Lake Chapala Society Tickets, Etc. booth from 10 a.m. to noon.

This should be another great musical offering by the Music Appreciation Society that you won’t want to miss.
